#CountMeIn Call to Action - Week 24: Talk about Income

week 24 2018 share graphic

This week's call to action invites us to talk about income. However, many of us feel uncomfortable discussing money with others. This could be a result of the messages we received from family, community, and society. Recognizing that multiple oppressions related to gender, race, class, and education shape financial access and stability, aim to engage in more conversations about salary, income, retirement, and other aspects of your finances.

Talk about income.

It’s often a taboo topic, but it’s critical to discuss finances in your family, workplace, and community. In Oregon, it’s perfectly legal to talk to coworkers about compensation. Research shows that women are better able to negotiate wages and fair treatment if they know how much others in their workplace and sector are paid.
